9th - 10th Century Petersen Type L Sword

This sword is a hybrid design of two different Petersen Type L swords found in Wales. The two swords it is based on are:

NMGW-E9F623 from the Portable Antiquities Scheme

1969,0703.1 from the British Museum

It combines a more unusually shaped type L from the PAS with the Trewhiddle style silver decoration from the British Museum sword.

The steel parts have been blackened to stand out against the sterling silver decorative bands. The hilt is made from bone.

The blade is made blunt for reenactment battles (minimum 2mm edge and point rounded off to a 25mm diameter)
