The Gjermundbu Burial Mound is among the most famous Viking burial mounds, mostly for the iconic Gjermundbu spectacle helmet, however the rest of the warriors equipment found in the grave was very elaborate and finely made.
This spear head is a replica of one of the spears found in this grave. It is a Petersen Type F spear head with a socket heavily inlaid with copper and sterling silver. Inlay is a very time consuming technique, the sole purpose of which is decoration and status. The warrior of the Gjermundbu grave mst have been a very wealthy and powerful individual!
In one image you can see my replica alongside the original (original photograph courtesy of Matt Bunker).
