This handmade basketry cleave is used to split larger materials down so that they can be woven together to form baskets. 
 
This particular tool is a four way cleave meaning you can split a large piece of material down into four quarters. You can also use just a single blade on the cleave to split a piece of material into two 
 
The cleave tip has been cast from brass then hand sharpened and the handle is hand turned.
This cleave would make a great addition to your basketry tool kit or would be a lovely gift for someone thinking of starting a new craft. It would go well with my hand made Rapping Irons and Bodkins which are also available on my Etsy shop.
