This intricate Viking belt buckle is a copy of a find from Norway and is made in the Borre stlye. The original is listed on the Norges Metallsoker Forening Museum website as being from the Viking era and have given it a broad period of usage from 793 - 1066 AD, however Borre style artwork is generally dated to between the 9th - 10th centuries.
The buckle is quite complex with a hinged belt plate and pin. The buckle itself has a zoomorphic mouse face at the front.
This buckle would be an excellent and fancy addition to your belt especially for a reenactor portraying a Viking Age Norwegian.
My replica has been cast in the UK from brass using the lost wax casting method. The master was carved by hand.
